CPF ACTIVIST ROY NGERNG PLEADS GUILTY TO DISRUPTING YMCA EVENT

On 7 October 2015, CPF activist Roy Ngerng pleaded guilty to causing public nuisance and organising a demonstration without approval. He was fined S$1,900 for committing both offences.

Ngnerg together with fellow CPF activist Han Hui Hui led 20 or more people towards the YMCA charity carnival “YMCA Proms @ The Park 2014”. The group demonstrated by shouting loudly, chanting slogans, waving flags, holding placards, blowing whistles loudly and beating drums.

Ngerng’s lawyer Eugene Thuraisingam said his client had contributed to society by volunteering his time to teach special needs and autistic children and was genuinely ignorant for the need of a separate approval for demonstrations. Ngerng is deeply remorseful for his actions and will not reoffend.
