S’POREANS MUST HEED THE WORKERS PARTY CALL TO EMBRACE FOREIGN SPOUSES & HELP THEM INTEGRATE

Dear Editors,

Foreign spouses who are married to Singaporeans form a potential pool of talents. This is what WP has advocated and it is rightfully so. The present government (or previous one before the election) may not have clearly seen the need to integrate these foreign spouses, but we do recognize that they can bring our country forward in the same manner.

I have come across numerous cases where foreign spouses have to leave Singapore despite the fact that they have to look after their Singaporean children here. I listen to their stories and empathize with them. Their stories are really heart-breaking, as our future generation is deprived of motherly love. We need to do something about it and I ask the government and ICA to revisit the foreign immigrant policies, particularly for those who are foreign spouses with Singaporean children here.

If we want Singapore to grow up and move forward, we must embrace diversity and extend our offer to help those who deserve our help. Foreign spouses who support our Singaporean children deserve a better place in Singapore.

My fellow Singaporeans, regardless of where you stand – either white, blue or others, we can make our country a more beautiful place for everyone.
