PAP SEND LOWLY GRASSROOTS LEADER TO CONTEST IN HOUGANG SMC DEATHTRAP

The PAP announced on Saturday that 44 year old Grassroots leader Lee Hong Chuang will be sent to contest in Hougang SMC during the upcoming GE against WP incumbent Png Eng Huat.

Mr Lee Hong Chuang is the Chairman of Hougang Community Club Management Committee and vice-president of Singapore Gymnastics. Lee has been working the ground in Hougang since last April.

Mr Lee replaces “Hougang Boy” aka Desmond Choo who contested twice and lost during GE2011 and the by-election after WP MP Yaw Shin Leong was expelled from the WP due to an extra-martial affair.

Instead of parachuting an elite candidate to contest, the PAP has changed tack and sent their Grassroots leader into the fray. Will this new strategy be appreciated by residents in Hougang, or is this just a futile attempt to recapture the Opposition stronghold?
