CHIEF OF DEFENCE FORCE NG CHEE MENG RETIRES FROM THE SAF

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen announced on Facebook that Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng will retire from the Singapore Armed Forces on Aug 18. He will be replaced by current Chief of Army, Major-General Perry Lim.

The sudden retirement prompted speculation the LG Ng Chee Meng might be running in the upcoming General Election.

LG Ng spent 29 years in the SAF and currently holds directorship appointments in organisations like Singapore Technologies Engineering, Jurong Town Corportation and DSTA.

When queried about his immediate plans, LG Ng said: “While I do not rule out the option of returning to the Administrative Service or entering politics if the opportunity presents itself, my immediate focus is on handing over my duties to the incoming Chief of Defence Force.”
