The Parliament linked ministerial salaries to the median income of the top 1,000 Singaporean citizens earners, with a 40 per cent discount to reflect the ethos of political service since 2012.

Despite this adjustment, the Singapore ministerial salaries are the highest in the world. Singapore Prime Minister’s pay is 4.25 times higher than the president of America, and 77 times higher than the China leader.
