CEMENT MIXED WITH NEWSPAPERS USED TO PROP UP HDB DOOR FRAMES

Josephine made a shocking discovery when a contractor was changing a door frame in her HDB flat at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.

She found that newspapers dated as far back as 1998 was found mixed with the cement that was supposed to be underneath the plastic door frames.

When the she consulted her contractor about what happened, he said that it was not the first time he has come across such a practice.

Should Singaporeans be worried about the building standards for our HDB flats? Has such slip shod workmanship been commonly used in Singapore?

How did these HDB flats pass HDB’s stringent inspections? Was there any lapse in quality control that resulted in such poor construction standards?
