A man was rushed to the hospital after an unfortunate sexual encounter left him with a fractured penis, according to a New England Journal of Medicine article posted Thursday.
A 42-year-old man was having sex with his partner when his erect penis slipped slightly below the mark and was bent sharply. Immediately, he heard a ‘snap,’ saw the blood rush away and became flaccid, he later told doctors. Then the severe pain of a fractured penis came.
He was rushed to a Boston hospital where he had an emergency repair operation. He was able to leave the next morning.
The blood burst from the torn structure underneath the skin, causing massive bruising, and turning his penis sickening purple color (photo is NSFW). Dr. Robert Hartman writes that the case was a “classic eggplant deformity,” where the penis becomes swollen, discolored and misshapen.
A penile fracture happens when the tunica albuginea is torn. This structure is responsible for surrounding and protecting the vessel holding blood that maintains an erection.
Some possible long term consequences of this injury include erectile dysfunction, penile curvature, and possible nerve injury to the organ. Luckily, when the man checked in three and six months after operation, he escaped these dysfunctions.
