A video of a maid tossing and shaking a baby violently has been making rounds on Facebook, WhatsApp and WeChat over the weekend. The video has shocked netizens and many have called on the authorities and other netizens to provide more clues on the identity of the child abuser.
However, it turns out that the video first went viral in the middle of last month. The clip was not of a local domestic worker, but was actually of a 17 year-old mother in Ipoh, Malaysia who struck and tossed her baby several times to get the child to stop crying.
The video of her assault first came to light on 18th May, and Ipoh police released a statement to clarify that the video circulating in Singapore is from the same case. Ipoh police also said that a court has removed the child from the custody of its parents and given it over to the grandmother of the child. The baby is now in “good health”.
