NATIONAL WAGES COUNCIL PROPOSE $60 INCREMENT FOR LOW INCOME WORKERS

The National Wages Council proposed a minimum wage increase for workers earnings less than $1,100 a month. Workers in that bracket can expect a pay hike of at least $60 this year.

NWC had previously recommended a built-in wage increase of S$50 in 2012 and S$60 in 2013 and 2014.

As a result of NWC’s past recommended wage increase, the proportion of workers earning less than $1,000 a month has decreased from 9.8% in 2012 to 6.8% in 2014.
