JAPAN CREATES GTA-STYLE GAME THAT LETS PLAYERS TAKE UPSKIRT PHOTOS OF IN-GAME CHARACTERS

Gamers all over the world have anxiously been awaiting a title that’s just as bizarre in concept as it is in title:

The full name of the title, in English, translates to: Summer Color High School ★ Youth Files ~ The First Day at a New School and I’m reunited with an old friend after being forced to join the school paper and trying to get great photos every day but while looking for a big scoop suddenly I’m more super attractive to girls than I thought and yet for some reason all I can remember are the pictures of panties I took and while I face that reality and contemplate it I must choose my true love during school life on this island for one summer. ~

The game’s ambition? To combine the free moving, free interaction style of games like Grand Theft Auto with the more kitschy, Japanese-style romantic dating simulations.

But most gamers, especially the men, are more interested in its infamous “upskirt” feature. The main character of the game walks around the game with a camera most of the time, poised and ready to use “stealth” tactics to capture photos of… you guessed it, female in-game characters’ panties!

Although that feature has overshadowed most of the hype for the game, the game also features other activities such as bike riding, fishing, cow tipping, and the taking of non-panty pictures.

In the beginning of the year, Inside Games conducted an interview with the game’s creator, who dressed in black leather, sunglasses and a surgical mask for his appearance (truly a weird character in his own right).

He wanted to truly capture the feeling of freedom of being young again for gamers, he says. That’s why he set his romance game in an open environment where the player can move and interact with complete freedom. The game takes place on a holiday island where players can interact with over 300 non-playable character residents, including the 7 classmates that the player must woo and eventually fall in love with over the duration of the game.

The creator also gave away some hints on the technology behind the “upskirt” photo feature in the game. One of the tidbits he gave was that the game will use a Pantsu Hakikae System (PHS), which allows the characters in the game to change their underwear every day just like in real life. This is probably the first time that this much effort and detail has been spent on in-game character underwear… ever.

He also elaborated on the nifty Gekisha Pantsu System (GPS), which is the complex system of controls and maneuvers a player must use in order to obtain upskirt photos of panties. The creator even threw in a Matrix-style slow-motion effect that allows the player to shoot pictures while sliding along the ground and under the skirt of an unsuspecting female character. Talk about an abuse of power.

For those of you who are already piqued by this odd-ball romantic dating sim, the game will be released on the PS3 and PS4 consoles on 4th June, retailing at 6,980 yen (US$56) and 7,480 yen ($60), respectively.
