SCDF DIRECTOR STOLE 2 APPLE IPADS, SELLS ONE OF THEM TO SCDF COLLEAGUE

A former director of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), 63 year-old Jeganathan Ramasamy, will head back to the State Courts on Tuesday to face charges over his misappropriation of 2 iPads in 2011. He faces 2 charges of criminal breach of trust for obtaining two iPad 2 devices from NCS Pte Ltd while serving as a director of the SCDF’s technology department.

The tablets are valued at nearly $940 each and had been delivered straight to Jeganathan’s office in Ubi Avenue as a means to test mobile applications.

Jeganathan however gave one of the iPads to his daughter for her personal use and sold the other to his colleague, Eric Yap Wee Teck, then senior director for emergency services – for $200. Yap was subsequently appointed as SCDF chief on February 2012.

Jeganathan faces up to 20 years in jail and a fine on each charge.
