Going against the odds, Singapore’s LionsXII went on to clinch the Malaysia FA Cup after a 3-1 win over Kelantan at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday night.
In the 7th minute, LionsXII took the lead after Izzidin Shafiq sent a through ball from the right flank to Faris Ramli, who used his pace to control the ball before rounding keeper Khairul Fahmi to open floodgates.
For the rest of the first half, LionsXII were under immense pressure but managed to hold on to their one goal advantage till half time.
Unsurprisingly, the much fancied Kelantan side roared by in the 63th minute with a beautiful goal from Wan Zack. Fortunately, the resilient LionsXII side stormed back with a well-taken solo goal by Sahil Suhaimi in the 80th minute. The win was sealed in injury time when Sahil scored a penalty.
This win earned the LionsXII their first trophy of the season.
