TEO CHEE HEAN VISITS GURKHAS TO CONSOLE THEM AFTER NEPAL EARTHQUAKE

On Sunday morning (26 April 2015), Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean visited the Gurkhas in Singapore.

During his visit, he was briefed on the situation in Nepal and he took the opportunity to thank the many generations of Gurkhas for their service to Singapore.

His Facebook update wrote:

“Visited our Gurkhas this morning. Briefed on situation in Nepal. Our thoughts are with our officers and families. We thank the many generations of Gurkhas for your service to S’pore. SCDF, SPF & SAF team ready to depart including some from GC to help SAR, victim ident & med support.”

In response to his Facebook post, numerous Gurkhas or their next of kin expressed their thanks for Singapore’s aid. They urged Singapore to allow Gurkhas leave of absence to allow them to return home to help in the recovery operations.
