They affirmed the “substantive and multi-faceted cooperation between Singapore and China” and agreed to strengthen the relationship between Singapore and the PRC, according to an MFA statement. This year marks the 25th year of Singapore-PRC diplomatic relations.

Both men also discussed law-enforcement cooperation in tackling transnational crimes such as terrorism, drug trafficking, corruption and cyber security.

Both Mr Zhang and Mr Guo offered their deepest condolences to Lee Hsien Loong and Singaporeans over the recent passing of the Republic’s first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

“They lauded the valuable contributions made by Mr Lee in laying the strong foundation for Singapore-China relations,” said the MFA.
