A man in Brazil, who is connected to a series of companies that local Singapore company Sembcorp Marine has hired as consultants for its contracts in Brazil, has been arrested for bribery charges. Sembcorp Marine had hired these companies as consultants for its projects with Sete Brasil, a subsidiary of state-owned Brazillian energy giant Petrobras.
The Brazilian authorities arrested the man last Friday following a complaints of bribery from an former employee of Petrobras, which is now embroiled in a massive bribery scandal, according to a Sembcorp Marine statement yesterday.
Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Corp were alleged to be included in the bribery scheme. Both have denied wrongdoing.
Sembcorp Marine said it has initiated an internal investigation and engaged lawyers, and it cannot comment on the allegations as its own investigations are ongoing.
