Amos Yee Pang Sang, the 16 year-old who was arrested on Sunday for posting a video criticizing LKY, was charged in court today with 3 charges.
The 1st charges under Section 298 states that the YouTube video “contained remarks against Christianity, with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of Christians in general.”
The 2nd charge is with regards to his depiction of the LKY and Margaret Thatcher in an obscene image on his blog, which has been made private since.
The 3rd charge is drawn from the Protection from Harassment Act, which states that Amos Yee’s video “contained remarks about Lee Kuan Yew which was intended to be heard and seen by persons likely to be distressed.”
The court granted Amos Yee a bail of $20,000 under the condition that he does not upload, post or distribute any comment or content, directly or indirectly, online while the case is ongoing. An additional condition for Amos Yee to report daily to an Investigation Officer daily was turned down by Judge John Ng as Amos Yee was assessed to not be a flight risk.
His pre-trial conference will take place on 17th April on 4PM.
