27 countries, regions and international organisations, represented by 170 dignitaries throughout the world attended the 4-day lying in state for the late Lee Kuan Yew at Parliament House.
The visitors included Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and his cabinet, former US President Bill Clinton, Vice President of China Li Yuanchao. Mr Li attended the wake as a special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping and met Teo Chee Hean on Saturday.
Also in attendance were LKY’s close friends former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger, former Malaysian Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin, former Taiwanese leader Hau Pei-tsun and ex-US ambassador to Singapore Steven Green among others.
Some of the foreign dignitaries chose to pay their respects at community tribute sites on Saturday. Canadian Governor-General David Johnson paid respects at the Tampines Community Plaza while South African Minister for Public Works Thembelani Nxesi paid his respects at Tanjong Pagar Community Center.
Lee Hsien Loong also received calls from Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el Sisi and Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who conveyed their condolences.
