According to the mainstream media, 300 packets of chicken rice was bought by “an unnamed Minister” for mourners in the queue to pay respects to Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
The chicken rice were handed out by volunteers and snapped up within minutes.
Despite this act of “charity”, some netizens commented that with their million dollar salaries, isn’t 300 packets of chicken rice too little? If the Minister was sincere, he should have bought 3,000 packets for both the mourners and the thousands of helpers.
300 x $3.00 per packet is only $900. That’s not even 1% of the Minister’s monthly salary.
Do you agree that this is a peanut contribution? Should the Minister have done more for Singaporeans braving the elements?
