26 years-old Indian national Gursharan Singh was arrested and accused in court of murdering 33 year-old beautician Madam Jasvinder Kaur. Her decapitated body was found floating in the Whampoa River.
Prosecution had originally leveled one charge against Gursharan, but the courts ruled on Friday that Gursharan would be given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal. Prosecution later tendered two more charges against Gursharan for causing evidence of a murder offence to disappear and for failing to report the offence to a police officer.
Between 11th to 12th December 2013, Gursharan, together with another Indian national Harvinder Singh, who is the victim’s husband, were accused of murdering Madam Kaur at a Balestier Road house. Gursharan later disposed of the body in the Whampoa River near Block 110 McNair Road.
Madam Kaur’s body was found in a rubbish bag floating in the river between McNair Road and St George’s Road. Her head and hands are missing, but her arms were heavily mutilated.
Bail of $50,000 was offered to Gursharan, who is due to appear in court on 20th March.
