15-year old Fu Wengui who lives in Beijing will undergo surgery to reduce the length of his neck which is causing him pain and giving him difficulty to walk.
His father said that Fu has 10 vertebrae bones in the neck instead of the usual 7. The extra bones caused pressure on the neck and disallowed his son to walk properly.
Wengui was diagnosed with congenital scoliosis and abnormal chest frame when he was 6-years old.
Congenital scoliosis is a spinal deformity caused by vertebrae that are not properly formed. It occurs very early in development in the first six weeks of embryonic formation.
A charity in Beijing has agreed to sponsor the operation.
