UNITED NATION HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL WILL DEBATE ANWAR’S SODOMY CONVICTION

Switzerland to address Anwar’s conviction at UN meeting

BERN: Switzerland will address the sodomy conviction of Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, said his party.

The Swiss embassy in Kuala Lumpur has reminded Malaysia that Switzerland lends importance to respecting the rule of law and fair trial, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat in a news release on Friday (Feb 13).

The Swiss Foreign Ministry will also address Anwar’s conviction in the next round of bilateral political talks with Malaysia. The talks are set to be held in Switzerland later this year.

Malaysia had upheld a five-year prison sentence for Anwar for sodomy.
