An Islamic State cleric has been removed from his post and will be put on trial for objecting to the organisation’s decision to burn a captive Jordanian pilot, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Friday.
The cleric made his opposition to the decision known at a meeting of an Islamic State clerical body in the town of al-Bab in Aleppo province.
Other Muslim clerics have publicly denounced the burning of the pilot. Even some al-Qaeda linked figures have declared the execution to be un-Islamic. Islamic State militants released a video of the Jordanian pilot being burnt alive in a cage on Tuesday, which triggered worldwide condemnation.
