JORDAN HANGS FEMALE ISLAMIC STATE PRISONER IN RETALIATION FOR PILOT’S BURNING

In retaliation for the burning of a Jordanian pilot by the Islamic State (IS), Jordan has hanged a female would-be suicide bomber in their custody whose release had been demanded by IS on Tuesday. Sajida al-Rishawi, the female suicide bomber, was sentenced to death for her role in a 2005 suicide bomb attack that killed 60 people.

In their official statement, Jordanina authorities also announced that another senior al-Qaida prisoner, Ziyad Karboli, has also been executed. Ziyad was convicted in 2008 for killing a Jordanian.

The prisoners were executed in Swaqa Prison, a large facility 70km south of the Jordanian capital, Amman, shortly before dawn, according to Reuters.

Executions for three other militants have been scheduled for Wednesday.

Jordan had declared in the wake of the video showing the pilot’s brutal death by burning that the kingdom would deliver a “strong, earth-shaking and decisive” response.
