HOW TO WRITE THE PERFECT PARKING SAMAN APPEAL LETTER

Almost every motorist in Singapore is guilty of not tearing enough parking coupon one time or another and if you are "lucky" the parking "feng fei fei" or "fatimah" or "hantu" will strike and issue you with the dreaded white slip.

If such misfortunate befalls onto you, how then should you wish this problem away? Write an appeal letter of course, a powerful appeal letter and HDB may just give you a one time waiver and let you off with a warning instead.

How then should you write an appeal letter that is powerful enough to waive off the saman? Follow these simple steps and maybe HDB will be nice and give chance to you.

1) Give your details first, make it simple and sweet for them to pull out your record and consider your case asap

Dear Sir/Mdm,

I am writing to appeal against my notice of parking offence dated on the 13 January 2015 at 2200HRS. The parking offence reference number is 12345432de29q

2) Acknowledge the offence and be honest about it

I was issued a saman for parking on the roadside with a yellow line along Clyde Street. I am aware that this is against regulation.

3) Tell them that you did try to make an effort to not break regulation

The sob story can start but always show that you did made an effort to look for a parking slot but forced by circumstances.

I made an attempt to look for the nearest public carpark but it was full. As I was in a terrible hurry to send my child to XXXXX (maybe doctor), I uncharacteristically made the reluctant decision to temporarily park by the side of the road. I did however make a conscious effort to not obstruct other road users. I made sure I was quick in my actions and completed my XXXXX in 15 minutes.

4) Get their sympathy, hope they empathize with you and seek forgiveness

I hope that you will accede to my request for a waiver of this offence due to the unfortunate series of events on that day. I am the sole breadwinner at home and really do not have the financial means to pay this fine now. I understand the importance of parking rules and how they ensure a safe and pleasant journey for commuters. I will do my utmost to ensure that I abide by them in future.

5) Sign off well

Sign off with sincerity and thank you.  Provide your basic details such as your name, NIRC, mobile number so as to facilitate the process of contacting you if they wish to give you a talking to. Please use a legitimate and professional looking email if you wish to be taken seriously.

(Disclaimer: If your appeal letter don't work, don't blame us hor! maybe is your Inggerish not good enough. just be sincere and honest about the incident and pray for the best)
