SHAMELESS PRC SCHOLAR ASKS LEE HSIEN LOONG IF HE CAN RETURN TO SG FOR WORK

After coming to Singapore for four free years of educaton, housing and subsistence, PRC scholar Luo Xiangyu left Singapore for Canada to pursue his degree. Now after graduation from the University of Toronto, he is looking for a job. Obviously, Canada is unable to provide him with good jobs, which is why he is now on Lee Hsien Loong’s Facebook asking if he can be allowed to work in Singapore since he was a former PRC scholar.

Do you think Lee Hsien Loong should allow this PRC scholar to return and milk Singapore dry?

His message to PM Lee is appended below:

Dear PM Lee,

I was a SM1 scholar who went to Singapore in 2007 after graduating from secondary school in China. I attended Raffles Institution for 4 years before I went to Canada to study mechanical engineering in the University of Toronto.

I am currently looking for job opportunities. I am truly grateful for the generosity of Singapore and the four-year long warm hospitality. I have made a lot of Singaporean friends and many of the scholars are already Singaporeans. I wonder what are the current policies regarding foreigners who attended Singaporean secondary education wanting to go back to Singapore after university?

I know from my experience in Singapore this is a controversial issue. But I really appreciate your time.

Thank you!
Xiangyu
