PAP MINISTER CHAN CHUN SING JOINS NTUC; CHANGES TO CABINET EXPECTED

Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing has joined NTUC on a part-time basis.

Chan will join NTUC full time from 1st April as part of the leadership renewal in NTUC.

He is seen as the successor to Lim Swee Say, the current NTUC chief who has to retire before he turns 62 next year.

NTUC’s central committee has requested Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to release Chan to serve in the labour movement to stregthen the leadership and the tripartite movement.

PM Lee supports their choice.

Lim Swee Say is the NTUC chief since January 2007 after taking over from Lim Boon Heng who had served as NTUC chief for 13 years.

As there are concerns who will succeed Chan in Ministry of Social & Family Development, the Press Secretary to PM Lee said that there will be changes to the Cabinet after the Budget session this year.
