Yap Weng Wah, a 31 year old Malaysian quality assurance engineer admitted to preying on 31 young boys aged between 11 and 15 over a three year period. This was one of Singapore’s worst case of sex crimes against young boys.
Yap Weng Wah would befriend young boys on Facebook using various personas and chatted them up before persuading them to meet him for swimming or exercise sessions.
In total, he cajoled 30 boys into sexual acts in his rental flat, shopping center toilets, swimming complexes, hotel rooms and a public park.
Yap also had the habit of recording the sexual acts and stored the footage into his computer with each folder sorted by the boy’s name, age and year they met.
After one of the boys made a police report, police who raided his home were shocked to find more than 2,000 homemade video clips in his laptop.
On Friday 16 January 2015, Yap pleaded guilty to 12 charges of sexual penetration of a minor and another 64 charges will be taken into consideration. The public prosecutor is seeking at least 30 years jail and 24 strokes of the cane.
In his defence, Yap’s lawyer said that Yap was in a 9 month sexual relationship with his male teacher when he was only 12. Because of the lack of a father figure in his life, he misinterpreted this relationship as acts of intimacy and love.
