According to Chinese evening newspapers published last Monday (27 October 2014), PAP MP for Marsiling ward Hawazi Daipi remarked that Sembawang GRC will be rezoned into smaller GRCs due to population growth within Sembawang GRC.
Three new PAP activists have appeared frequently in Sembawang GRC’s grassroot activities leading to speculations that they may be potential new candidates for the upcoming General Elections that has to be held by January 2017. They are former NTUC deputy secretary general Ong Ye Kung, lawyer Amrin Amin and deputy CEO of Hai Leck Holdings Cheng Li Hui.
Sembawang GRC is currently a 5-person constituency led by popular Minister Mr Khaw Boon Wan who is currently the Minister for National Development. The constituency gathered 63.9% of popular votes against Singapore Democratic Party in General Elections 2011.
