Singapore – Sharp-eyed Singaporeans have noticed a new eye catching internet advertisement that is popping up on Taiwanese and Hong Kong websites.
The advertisement by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) showed a wax figure of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew surrounded by his real life former principal political secretaries and personal assistants. They include Alan Chan who is the current group CEO of SPH and Heng Swee Keat who is the current Education Minister.
A spokesperson for STB, Mr Lar Xiang Guan informed ST that that a new wax museum featuring famous personalities in Singapore will be set up besides Fort Siloso in Sentosa where the current World War II wax museusm stands. Mr Lar said wax figures of founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew are ready for members of public to take photographs.
ST interviewed a pioneer generation Singaporean, Mr Jia Zao Pian who spoke fondly of his brief encounter with Mr Lee Kuan Yew back in 1965.
“I did not wash my right hand for a week after I shook hands with Mr Lee,” Mr Jia recalls proudly, “Now they are going to have this new wax museum for him, I will go to Fort Siloso every day to reminisce my encounter with the man who brought Singapore from Third World to First.”
Another Singaporean, Mr Lao Tee Koh said now he has one more reason to visit Sentosa. Heeding the call for lifelong learning, he spent his time after retirement learning beach volleyball.
“You come to Sentosa beach and learn from these youngsters, you will improve very fast”, Mr Lao pointed to a group of bikini-clad ladies in a game of beach volleyball. “Now with this new wax museum, I tell my wife that I come here to see Lao Lee. Don’t need to go Hong Kong Madame Tussauds to see him liao. So convenient.”
