SINGAPORE – In line with the Singapore Armed Forces’s recent revision of the IPPT fitness test, the People’s Action Party has made it mandatory for all elected male PAP MPs to pass their IPPT. Failure to do so will result in heavy punishments.
PAP MPs are expected to train for IPPT and are expected to pass IPPT. Failure to do so will result in the confiscation of their entire salaries for 1 month.
For PAP MPs who are holding Ministerial positions, they are expected to achieve no less than an IPPT Gold award. Failure to do so will result in the confiscation of their million dollar salaries for 6 months.
If this initiative is a success, the PAP will organize a mass exercise session for Singaporeans to attend. There, PAP MPs will act as gym instructors and help fellow Singaporean NSmen pass their IPPT by imparting valuable fitness tips and advice.
When queried on the heavy punishments used to motivate PAP MPs, PAP spokesman Lei Gong said:
“As leaders in Singapore, our members are expected to be the best and set a good example for other Singaporeans to follow. If we do not pass IPPT ourselves, how can we expect Singaporeans to keep fit and follow us into combat? From the PAP’s experience in managing Singapore, using FINES is the most effective motivational tool. That is why, we decided to implement it within the party and ensure our members do not fall short of the lofty expectations expected of a PAP member.”
When told of the PAP’s plan to impose harsh financial penalties on their MP in the event of IPPT failure, 67 year old retiree Hor Lan Liao retorted: “Finally these jokers are going to have a taste of their own medicine. I hope they fail and get saman until bankrupt.”
There were others who were more enthusiastic about the latest initiative. Ms Bai Ai Bee told ST, “I am so happy our leaders are leading by example, I will definitely vote for them again!”
As of press time, all contacted PAP MPs have declined to comment. More updates to follow.
