CORRUPTED TOWN COUNCIL ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE SERVICE UNIT DEMANDS $50 TO RETRIEVE DROPPED ITEMS IN LIFT SHAFT

Dear editor,

Yesterday, the Chinese evening papers reported about a single mother with 4 children who is struggling to make ends meet.

She told the paper that her 11 year old daughter had dropped her wallet into the lift shaft. The family requested assistance from Town Council’s Essential Maintenance Service Unit (EMSU) to retrieve the wallet but the technician demanded that the family pay $50 first.

According to the paper, $50 is a significant sum to the single-mum because it could be used to pay for 1-month’s rental.

From my understanding, EMSU is not supposed to charge residents to retrieve items in the lift shaft.

Should the relevant authorities investigate?
