A new Chief of Navy has been appointed and will take on his duties in August.
Rear-Admiral (RADM) Lai Chung Han, 41, will be taking over from RADM Ng Chee Peng, 44, as part of a “continuing process” of leadership renewal in the SAF.
RADM Ng has been the Chief of Navy since March 2011 and was key in establishing and operationalising the National Maritime Security System and the ARCHER-Class submarines.
RADM Lai has been with the SAF since 1992. He was both a President’s Scholar and an SAF (Overseas) scholar who has a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Cambridge. He also has a Master of Public Administration from Harvard.
RADM Lai has served as the Navy’s Fleet Commander and also been the Deputy Secretary (Policy) at MINDEF for the past 2 years.
