Police arrest 15 sinkies for involvement in soccer bookmaking and punting activities

Police have arrested 15 people, comprising 14 men and 1 woman, who are allegedly involved in illegal soccer bookmaking and punting activities in an island-wide operation on Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Multiple raids were conducted in locations such as Choa Chu Kang, Whampoa and Toa Payoh by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department, according to a press statement.

Cash amounting to about $350,000, an array of computers and mobile phones were seized. Documents such as betting records and bank transaction records were taken away by the police too.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have received illegal bets amounting to about $800,000 in the past two weeks.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
