11 men charged with rioting at worksite

SINGAPORE — Eleven men were charged yesterday with rioting at a construction site off Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 last Sunday afternoon.

Four Chinese nationals, aged between 25 and 46, are accused of punching and kicking seven Bangladeshi nationals on April 6 at about 3.15pm. They are Liu Zhiwen, 44, Sun Jia Hong, 46, Liu Baoqiang, 27, and Chong Hongbin, 25.

The Bangladeshi men, aged between 20 and 28, are accused of being part of an unlawful assembly during which one or more punched and kicked the Chinese nationals.

The alleged offences took place at the construction site of Rainforest Condominium. A police statement said a 26-year-old man was found injured when officers arrived.

Bail was set at S$15,000 each. Their cases will be heard again on April 22.

For rioting, they face a maximum penalty of seven years’ jail and caning. Leong Wai Kit
