What is marriage? Marriage is traditionally defined as the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognised by law. Same-sex marriage redefines marriage as being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage. However, in such a marriage, children in the family will not have parents of both sexes.
Legalising same-sex marriage removes parents of both sexes from the marriage equation, which effectively destroys family – the basic building block of our society. With family – the most fundamental support and pillar of a healthy community destroyed, how will a righteous generation be raised? What kind of future will our children, and their children have? Although recent studies have shown that children raised in gay and lesbian households fare no worse than those raised in traditional families, are their emotional or psychological needs appropriately fulfilled?
What is the painful consequence if the definition and purpose of marriage changes and devolves to the mere recognition of an emotional union? The answer: children will be shortchanged!
