IDA S'PORE APOLOGISES TO SOON-TO-QUIT EMPLOYEE OVER INSENSITIVE JOB ADVERT

Yesterday, we put out a job recruitment ad for a position at IDA that referred to an employee by name, instead of the job title he was vacating as his contract is ending. It was a mistake made by one of our HR team members, who was new to the recruitment publishing tool and accidentally published the employee’s name instead of the job title.

IDA S'PORE PUTS UP JOB AD TO REPLACE ONE SPECIFIC EMPLOYEE, BREACH OF PRIVACY LAW?

like a typical under-employed IT ‘professional’ seeking a perm role, I chanced upon an interesting ad by iDA titled, “Replacement for Kenneth Yeo Wee”. Wow! Is “Replacement” the job title, and “Kenneth Yeo Wee” the name of a Smart Nation campaign? This is an obvious breach of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) by iDA, by inadvertently revealing an individual’s name, in this case possibly a former iDA staff. Isn’t iDA supposed to be the authority of Infocomm, and an advocate for information and privacy protection?

IDA SAYS CIVIL SERVANTS CAN STILL ACCESS INTERNET ON DEVICES ISSUED BY AGENCIES

In a bid to allay fears of Singapore regressing to the "Stone Age", the Info-communications Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) issued this poster last night.

Instead of suggesting that internet access is removed, the poster calls the initiative "Internet Surfing Separation".

Officers would be able to access the Internet with the devices provided by their agency.

Civil servants who have to interact with the public would still be able to carry out their jobs.

PUNGGOL RESIDENTS ARE BEING PUNISHED FOR POOR MOBILE PHONE RECEPTION

HDB residents in Puggol Edgefield Plains have to pay more for their mobile phone bills despite the poor coverage they are receiving. The mobile phone reception of local telcos in block 672D was so weak that residents often unknowingly latched on to mobile phone networks of Malaysian telcos.

SINGAPOREANS ARE UPSET WITH PAY INCREASE IN THE CIVIL SERVICE

Nisha Padmanabhan, a new Singaporean of India origin has a Masters degree conferred by Southern Pacific University, a known degree mill. This issue was discovered by a sharp-eyed Singaporean who subsequently posted his discovery on popular Singapore social media websites. IDA's response has caused discomfort among civil servants, especially among ground officers within Immigration & Checkpoint Authority (ICA) which is known by the public to be the first line of defence against dubious characters who wish to relocate and work in Singapore.

GOVT MUST INVESTIGATE ALL HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGERS IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE

I am very disappointed with IDA and Ministry of Manpower's lack of updates in the recent spate of fake degree cases. Firstly, it looks like there are public servants in statutory boards who possess fake educational qualifications. Unless IDA can come out with a statement to refute this, Singaporeans will continue to assume that IDA allows foreigners with dubious characters to represent the organisation.

IDA: WE STAND BY NISHA AS SHE BELIEVED HER MBA WAS REAL

The IDA says that it is satisfied that applications consultant Nisha Padmanabhan did not deceive the agency by listing the MBA from Web-based Southern Pacific University, an alleged diploma mill, in her resume. The IDA added that Ms Padmanabhan's employment was not based on her MBA, as her position required only a bachelor's degree, and that it also considered her relevant skills and prior work experience.

STOP THE RUMOURS! SOUTHERN PACIFIC UNIVERSITY IS NOT A FAKE DEGREE!

Southern Pacific University might be an unaccredited institution, but the degree that she possesses is not a fake one as everyone is alleging. I have validated with some of my ex-colleagues who had their friends who did their courses from SPU. I understand that there were proper credit hours awarded through lecture sessions and dissertations that students had to complete before getting this degree.

IDA STARTS TO CENSOR FB COMMENTS ON FOREIGN STAFF FOUND WITH FAKE DEGREE

After netizens exposed an IDA staff Nisha Padmananbhan for having a fake MBA from Southern Pacific University, IDA refused to tackle this important issue head on. Instead they said that Nisha was hired based on her Bachelor's degree and her fake MBA was not taken into account. However IDA fail to see that this is not a qualification issue but an integrity issue. How can you hire a person who buys an MBA from a degree mill? Is a staff with such questionable integrity good for the public service?
