A much anticipated public appearance by asylum seeker Amos Yee, who was recently released from jail after successfully being granted asylum status in the USA in September, has been cancelled by its organizers Harvard College Open Campus Initiative (HCOCI).

AMOS YEE STILL STUCK IN US PRISON, ASKS FOR BOOKS TO BE SENT TO COMFORT HIM

Amos is still needlessly in prison because the government continues to challenge the court ruling that granted his political asylum. The government’s decision to continue to incarcerate him weighs heavily on his spirits as he continues to fight against the enduring stress of his imprisonment in the US and the trauma from his imprisonment in Singapore. Amos has found comfort reading books that his supporters have sent him over the weeks. Amos has requested Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam​'s book “Make it right for Singapore: Speeches in Parliament, 1997-1999” in solidarity with those who have been unjustly persecuted by their governments.

We would like to take a moment to address a statement that was made by ambassador Bilahari Kausikan “In fact the well-being of the boy and his family were probably the least of their considerations if this was ever a consideration in the first place.”
