Dear A.S.S. Editor
A SEA Games debutant in the men's swimming competition has surprised everybody by clinching the gold medal in his maiden event, thus ensuring that Singapore's pool of talented swimmers and winners are going to be continued into the next few years.
19 year old Teong Tzen Wei won in the 50m freestyle final, beating the favourite from Indonesia, Triady Fauzy. Another Singaporean swimmer, Darren Lim finished 4th in the event. Tzen Wei had wualified second fastest for the finals during the heats on Friday morning. This is his first ever medal of any colours.
Goes to show that the Singapore men's swimming team is not all about Joseph Schooling and Quah Zheng Wen. There are many more raw and unpolished diamonds waiting in the wings. Seems like the future of the sports is in safe hands.
