On Monday, 17 July, Wee Wei Jie, a 26 year old regular serviceman in the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), was sentenced to 4 weeks jail for trying to film a 16 year old Nanyang Junior College schoolgirl while she was changing her clothes.
The incident took place at Nanyang Junior College. Wee Wei Jie trespassed into the school premises and snuck into the girls' changing room. The victim, who had just finished her sports CCA training went into a cubicle in the changing room to change clothes. After she removed her top, she noticed a mobile phone above the door of her cubicle, with its camera pointing at her.
She screamed and heard the pervert running away. She ran out of the changing room but could not find the man who had taken her topless video. She informed her teacher about what had happened. The Nanyang Junior College vice principal reviewed CCTV footage taken outside the changing room. The CCTV footage showed the victim going into the changing room at 7:50 pm, followed shortly by a man. Another scene showed the same man running out with a mobile phone in his hand.
The man was subsequently traced. Wee admitted to using his Samsung phone to film the victim. The topless video could not be retrieved as Wee had deleted the video after watching it on his way home.
Wee said that he had done it because it is "exciting" to film girls in the toilet. His lawyer, Jonathan Wong, urged the court to give his client just a "high fine" for taking nude videos because Wee works as an engineer with the RSAF and is keen to continue to work there. Mr Wong said that this was a "one-off" incident and Wee Wei Jie has behaved well in the past.
District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt sentenced Wee Wei Jie to 4 weeks jail for his perverted act.
Wee could have been jailed up to 1 year and fined for insulting the modesty of a woman.
