Responding to news of The Real Singapore co-founder Yang Kaiheng being sentenced to 8 months imprisonment, Singapore's social media badass Amos Yee had this to say about Yang's situation. He pitied Yang's inability to milk the situation to his advantage to forward his political agenda. Instead he praised himself as being very good in attracting publicity and lamented the lost opportunity to help Yang and his wife Ai Takagi.
"Now this is what you should do and plead guilty for a lighter sentence if you don't know how to use your trial and create a media circus to more effectively promote your political agenda. What a pity, I would have helped them do that if they reached out to me. I'm sorry I didn't reach out to them and offered help myself.
So don't make the same mistake, if you want to do something illegal in Singapore you make sure you have the ability to attract publicity, so that when the government thinks that they're using jail effectively to silence you, you use it as the catalyst to make people talk about you and protest on the streets, and you don't come out of jail forgotten, you come out like Mandela. That rude boy who got arrested for insulting Lee Kuan Yew is very good in doing that"
